Scattered Order & Living Science Dept. + Peter Hollo's Raven

In the so-called twilight years of their career, Scattered Order find themselves more in touch with their direction and purpose than at any time in recent memory.

Thirteen years ago the band regrouped as the MK 1 version with founding members Mitch Jones and Michael Tee. Shane Fahey, also an early band member, rejoined them a year later in 2010. Mitch Jones is the mainstay and driving force within the band. He has been there all the way since inception in 1979. As with any longstanding musical act there have been many manifestations of style, personnel and technology along the way.

Given the band’s long and varied history it is a testament to their resilience that none of the current members feels they are part of a scene or genre. Their roots are in the DIY/post punk/art noise of the late 1970s, but they exist outside the zeitgeist and legacy mode of their contemporaries from that era.

The new album “All things must persist” is a collision of 1970’s trippy movie soundtracks; lush sounds; jokes; messed up grooves; pianos tinkling in the night; mistakes and bungles; a couple of old canons and drones. An introspective subtlety is still evident throughout the nine tracks. Sometimes delicate and wistful then suddenly jarred by abrasive noise making and always looking forward with hope.

For this special one-off performance at the The People’s Republic of Australasia, Scattered Order will play the “softer” tracks from the new album.

LIVING SCIENCE Dept. has done live visuals for all Scattered Order’s shows since 2010 and also created all the video clips. Their mind-warping psychedelia has transformed live performances of the band into a complete audio-visual experience that gives a bizarre and multi-dimensional character to the music.

Peter Hollo is cellist in FourPlay String Quartet, Tangents, Black Aleph and many other ensembles. His solo work has gravitated from laptop-based beatmaking in the late-'90s to live cello looping and processing, with a solid base in improvisation.

When not playing with the genre-defying Tangents or the almost impossibly eclectic FourPlay String Quartet, Peter has performed alongside a long list of Australian luminaries including Sophie Hutchings, Oren Ambarchi, Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance), Seekae and Paul Mac.
