This trio has learnt to defy gravity… Mesmerising” – Sydney Morning Herald
Formed in Sydney over twenty years ago, the Alister Spence Trio has become known as one of the most distinctive, spellbinding units in Australian music. The artists’ individual biographies include performances and recordings with Dewey Redman, Brian Eno, Archie Roach, Jim O’Rourke, Paul Capsis and the Laughing Clowns. Their 2015 live album won them nominations for Excellence in Jazz at the Art Music Awards and Best Small Group at the Jazz Bell Awards. Their Winter Jazz performance celebrates the trio’s seventh recording, a double album whose luminous soundscapes are dark, lyrical, textured and endlessly surprising.

Special support by Crossover
Bonnie Stewart’s ethereal voice and percussive textures sail
through her evolving compositions, flowing together with the lush
and playful tones of Luke Sweeting and distinctive experimental
sounds of Peter Farrar. Crossover forges an amalgam of
improvisation, haunting melodies, and polyphonic soundscapes.
A rearrangement of Bonnie’s quintet Criss Cross, this trio of
individual improvisors creates a unique and cohesive collective
