SICKO Launch Party

  • The Sly Fox 199 Enmore Road Enmore, NSW, 2042 Australia (map)

The Launch of Sydney’s newest weekly night of exploratory music.
Think 3 hours of the Knitting Factory on a Sunday night, followed by two hours of kooky, weird and left of centre DJs or live electronica.

We are proud to present -

Paris Pompour - legendary DJ from Groovescooter playing the interstitial sets.

Hinterlandt
Hinterlandt is a Sydney-based ensemble playing acoustic, progressive indie-chamber music. For the launch of the SICKO series, the group will perform its new Sollbruchstelle set in full, plus selected movements from previous compositions such as Ode to Doubt. The new material is more energetic than earlier works, combining unusual instrumentation, polyrhythmic structures and avant-garde practices with a sense of beauty and catchy melodies.

On Sollbruchstelle, Hinterlandt makes use of acoustic guitar as a quasi-percussion instrument, cello to hold the bottom end together with its heavy double stops, and two violins in question-and-answer conversations, not unlike a pair of witty sisters who finish each others’ sentences. Angular, progressive semitone- and triton-driven sections alternate with melodies that wouldn’t be out of place in independent pop music. Constantly shifting time signatures and harmonic progressions keep the piece interesting for the 19 minutes of its duration.

Since the beginning of 2018, Hinterlandt has already performed at venues such as MONA Museum of Old and New Art, Heide Museum of Modern Art, Art Gallery of Ballarat, Wagga Wagga Art Gallery and more.
