The Pen Club (album launch)

  • Venue 505 280 Cleveland Street Surry Hill, NSW, 2010 Australia (map)

‘New’ Jazz is not a predictable beast, it doesn’t always resonate sonically like the ‘old’ yet still holds the deepest essence of the musical form. 505 in conjunction with The City Of Sydney and KAWAI presents some of the most exciting sounds in our city boasting the freshest talent reinvigorating the genre.

The Pen Club are an improvising band that experiments with form, rhythm and writing implements.
The Pen Club are launching their debut album Data Retrieval at Venue 505. The music is brutal rhythmic improvisations that coalesce at various moments into short moments of cyclical complex rhythmic movement in ways that references the music of Marc Hannaford, Matt Mitchell and Phil Slater.
This music is produced in collaboration with the bands endorsers, ‘BIC’, the world leader in stationary. In celebration of the release, Peter Dalsberg, BIC board member and head of stationary will be introducing the band and discussing the music in relation to the now longstanding BIC relationship.

The album is released with Eupcaccia Records and will be for sale on the night for $15.00.
