Sonic Moves X presents the internet music ensembles Ethernet Orchestra and Female Laptop Orchestra (FLO), in a live telematic improvised concert at Halfback Books, Dee Why.
The concert will feature FLO founder Nela Brown, Sydney based sound artist and vocalist Donna Hewitt, performing live in the bookshop with Dee Why local Ethernet Orchestra founder trumpeter and sound artist, Roger Mills.

Roger Mills will also talk about the growing field of online music making in his new book Tele-Improvisation: Intercultural Interaction in the Online Global Jam Session published by Springer in March 2019.

BIOGS
Nela Brown is an award-winning Croatian sound artist, technologist, researcher and lecturer with a background in classical music, jazz, sonic arts, engineering and human-computer interaction. She studied jazz and music production at Goldsmiths, University of London and composes music and sound design for award-winning international projects including theatre performances, dance, mobile technologies, film, documentaries and interactive installations. In 2013, she won a Highly Commended WISE Leader Award for setting up innovative programmes "to inspire girls and young women to engage with the male-dominated field of computer science" in her role as the Chair of G.Hack (2011-2016) and Chair of WISE@QMUL (2012-2013). In 2014, she started Female Laptop Orchestra (FLO), gathering an eclectic group of musicians and technologists exploring co-located and distributed collaborative music making within different contexts and across different geographical locations.

Roger Mills
Dr. Roger Mills is a musician, sound artist, educator, and writer whose practice and research focus on music composition, improvisation, networked music performance, and radio. Roger has an international reputation for his work as a composer and sound designer for both stage and screen. Credits include sound design for the multiscreen cinema film Hindsight (Ignition Films, UK), the score for BAFTA award winning dance theatre performance At Swim Two Boys (Earthfall, UK), and a Golden Eye Award for his multi-stream radio performance Idea of South (AU). He is the musical director of the Ethernet Orchestra, an acclaimed Internet music ensemble exploring new approaches to intercultural telematic improvisation. The ensemble informs Roger’s research of collaborative interaction in networked and digitally mediated environments. His new book Tele-Improvisation: Intercultural Interaction in the Online Global Music Jam Session has just been published in the Springer Series on Cultural Computing.
