'Creatures/Inhabitants' is a concerto composed by Hayley Chan for her Performance Honours degree. It is a semi-improvised piece written for drum set and accompanists and can be adapted to suit any instrumentation.
The piece explores free improvisation, density, texture, and tonality through the depiction of creatures in the wilderness. Consider what animal each player might be and how they interact. How has each animal been affected by the events of the day? What might tomorrow bring?
Special thanks to Chloe Kim, Simon Barker, Bree van Reyk, Hilary Geddes, Matt Keegan and Cameron Undy for continuing to encourage and inspire my practice at the Con.
Thank you to my accompanists:
Gabriella Hill on tenor saxophone
Uma Volkmer on trumpet
