Hannah James Quartet

Hannah James - double bass
Casey Golden - piano
Felix Lalanne - guitar
James Cameron - drums

Hannah James is a bassist, bandleader and composer whose music moves between lyricism and rhythmic play. The Hannah James Quartet brings together long-time collaborators Casey Golden (piano), Jamie Cameron (drums) and Felix Lalanne (guitar) — old co-conspirators whose shared musical language has evolved (and continues to evolve) over years of playing together.

Currently workshopping a new set of original material, the quartet explores melody, interaction and dynamic contrast with an open, conversational approach. Their sound draws on the language of modern lyric jazz masters, refracted through an unmistakably Australian sensibility — spacious, textural and quietly bold.

Casey Golden is a Sydney-based pianist described by The Australian as “a brilliant improviser with a highly developed melodic sensibility.” A prolific composer and bandleader (Casey Golden Trio, States of Chaos, This Week in the Universe, Golden/Barnard), his projects span jazz, electronic and film music, known for their honesty, originality and finely balanced interplay.

Felix Lalanne is an Australian guitarist and composer known for his versatility across jazz, folk, metal and fusion genres. Originally from Paris, he has worked with leading Australian improvisers and international artists such as Reinier Baas and Florian Ross. A 2017 finalist in the Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition, he returned the following year to perform at the Montreux Festival with the Montreux Academy supporting Chick Corea’s acoustic trio. He is also a member of The Good Behaviours — whose debut album was nominated for Folk Album of the Year and has performed with Arcing Wires and Funk Engine.

Jamie Cameron is a Sydney-based drummer working in improvised, contemporary and music theatre fields. Known for his expressive touch and adventurous rhythmic sensibility, he has performed and recorded with the Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra, 20th Century Dog, Song Fwaa, Amphibious, Clayton Doley and Ray Beadle and many more.
