Hallucinations // Phil Slater & Chris Abrahams

  • Church Street Studios 62-68 Church St Camperdown NSW 2050 (map)

"Monday Night Confessions" is a weekly show presenting original jazz/improvised music. Run out of Church Street Studios in Camperdown, Sydney, we acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, and pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging.

16th February 2026 - Hallucinations // Phil Slater & Chris Abrahams

Hallucinations

Laurence Pike – Drums/Electronics
Ken Allars – Trumpet
Jack Stoneham – Alto Saxophone
Novak Manojlovic – Piano

Hallucinations is the new band led by Laurence Pike. A natural progression from his recent solo music, Hallucinations finds the Sydney drummer exploring his singular approach to drums and live triggering of samples and electronics, ostensibly in the context of a jazz quartet.

The result is an unusual amalgamation of the trance-like rhythms of German minimal techno, and the spirited ecstasy of free jazz, framed by the cultural spectre of Artificial Intelligence.

Hallucinations marks the next chapter in a 25 year journey for Pike navigating the relationship between technology and the acoustic improviser, and features three of the finest young musicians in the country in pianist Novak Manojlovic, trumpeter Ken Allars, and alto saxophonist Jack Stoneham.

Phil Slater & Chris Abrahams

Phil Slater - trumpet
Chris Abrahams - piano

Monday Night Confessions are excited to present two established masters of the jazz and improvised music community; trumpeter Phil Slater and pianist Chris Abrahams.

Chris' work as a solo artist and with legendary minimalist jazz trio The Necks places him amongst the most singular musicians in Australia, whilst Slater's virtuosity and depth make him one of the finest trumpeters of his generation.

This performance will be their first meeting as a duo, and needless to say will be a very special set of music, so get your tickets early.
