Prophets! Music, Instrument Building and Mask Making Workshop (5 - 12yrs)

Join us for a participatory, hands-on creative workshop that combines music, art, design and performance through mask-making, instrument building and fun music-making with PROPHETS.

One-day art and music workshop with a performance.

10am-1pm Wednesday 10 July

Prophets are a collective from the Stylefree Planet with outposts in Melbourne and Sydney. There are more than 15 spectacularly masked members including Ctrl+Alt+Man, Ah!Puch!, BirdBrain, Groovy G, HeapsMad, Shazzam, Vee-za-Vee, O.D.D.N.O.B, and SpaghettiHead. Prophets have been sharing their Stylefree art and culture since 2007 and are universally renowned for their spirited music made with multiple saxophones, percussion, and original instruments.

What to bring: Yourself, your lunch, any mask-making materials you can think of, such as cardboard boxes, styrofoam boxes, old hats or helmets, old basketballs, paper or fabric bags, headbands, large ice cream tubs etc (get creative!).

Bankstown Arts Centre advises parents that the students will be working with paint and glue that is difficult to remove from clothes, please wear suitable clothing for painting activities.

Students are required to bring their own lunch. There will be a short lunch break in the middle of the workshop.

There may be a Council Videographer on site to record this workshop, if this is the case, release forms will be on hand to be signed by parents.

During the Prophets! workshop

Wear comfortable clothes and enclosed shoes
Bring a bottle of water; bring your own lunch
For parents/guardians - drop off your child in the workshop classroom five mins before the commencement of class and return at 12:30pm to see a small perfromace by the children and Prophets! We do not provide childminding services after the class.
We do not allow adults present at the workshop apart from our facilitator for WHS safety reasons. You are welcome to wait outside the classroom until the conclusion of the workshop as there will be a short music performance from 12:30pm.

Student Conduct

Students attending classes will follow the rules of the Centre and the instructions of the teacher or other staff.
Students will not interfere with the work of others and will not behave in ways that present risks to the safety of themselves or others.
Students who present a risk to others or themselves through repeated inappropriate behaviour may be refused enrolment.
If children do not follow the rules or repeated requests from teachers or other staff to behave in an appropriate manner, parents will be contacted to collect their child from the Centre.


Fees are non-refundable, and there are no transfers or refunds if you miss the workshop.

Access information

Entry to Bankstown Arts Centre is via the front of the building at Dale Parade. Visitors with restricted mobility can utilise all public spaces at the Arts Centre. Disabled parking is also available at the Olympic Parade car park.

Public transport

Bankstown Arts Centre is within five minutes walking distance from Bankstown Station and Bus Interchange.

Parking at the precinct

Parking is very limited at the Arts Centre precinct. Participants are suggested to use public transport wherever possible. Limited free 4-hours (4P) parking and disabled parking is available at the community carpark located on Olympic Parade.
