Jetsets is presenting a special Christmas Extravaganza on Tuesday 23 December to celebrate the conclusion of another year of creative music performances.
The gig will take place at the new home of The Living Room Theatre at 21 Shepherd St, Marrickville.
Special guest performer for the evening will be visiting Austrian bass clarinetist Anna Koch. Anna was featured in Sydney last year at the Cut Paste Play festival presented by the Music Box Project, and we are delighted to have her back in Sydney and performing for Jetsets.
The local talent will be the dynamic IBID duo featuring Keyna Wilkins on piano and flute along with Shane Carpini on drums.
Also, the evening will include a special performance of Ellen Kirkwood’s graphic/text/map composition ‘Music Country’ played by a select JetsetsAndFriends ensemble. Ellen Kirkwood, David Turner, Peter Farrar, Elly Brickhill, Jim Denley, Elizabeth Jigalin, Anna Koch and Peter Nilsson.

Anna Koch
Anna Koch is an Austrian clarinet and bass clarinet player. As a professional musician, she specialises in contemporary and improvised music.
Studies in clarinet performance at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, graduation with honours in 2017. Startstipendium Musik grant 2020 by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts and Culture. Premiere of her solo programme BASSticcio in January 2022. Selected Artist for NASOM – The New Austrian Sound of Music 2023/24.
Touring the world for her project Connecting the Dots where she collaborates with musicians, composers, and performers from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Member of Platypus Ensemble and ensemble reconsil, frequent guest artist with Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Kontrapunkte, Bang on a Can-All Stars, etc.. Collaborations with musicians and composers around the world such as Petra Stump-Linshalm, Michael Jarrell, Ig Hennemann, Julia Wolfe, Ken Thomson, Tamara Friebel, Elizabeth Jigalin, Flora Geißelbrecht, Marcio Steuernagel, Felipe Almeida-Ribeiro, Ariana Tikao, Reuben Jelleyman, and Bruno Liberda.
Performances as a soloist and chamber musician at festivals like Wien modern, Bang on a Can (USA), Auckland Arts Festival (New Zealand), Impuls Graz, SiMN Festival Curitiba (Brasil), Klangspuren Schwaz, Cut Paste Play Festival (Australia), Styriarte, Imago Dei, and Expo Shanghai (2010).
IBID Duo
IBID is Keyna Wilkins (piano/flute) and Shane Carpini (drumset). Together they play stream of consciousness improvisations and their own compositions inspired by philosophy, astronomy and human behaviour.
Wilkins is an Australian/British composer-musician and was one of three finalists for the Australian Art Music Awards for Individual Excellence in 2021 and 2018. Carpini is a prolific drummer and composer.

Ellen Kirkwood
Ellen Kirkwood is an award-winning composer, trumpeter, bandleader and educator. She an Australian-born person of British heritage, living on unceded Wangal Country in Sydney’s Inner West.
She completed a Bachelor of Music, majoring in Jazz Performance, at Sydney Conservatorium in 2008, and completed an Honours in composition at UNSW in 2020, receiving the grade of 1st Class. Kirkwood was the 2019 winner of the NSW APRA Art Music Award for Jazz Excellence, and the 2012 Jann Rutherford Memorial Award for young women in Jazz. She was a finalist in the 2017 Freedman Jazz Fellowships and her 1-hour suite for Sirens Big Band and guests, entitled [A]part, was a finalist for Jazz Work of the Year in the 2018 APRA Art Music Awards. She was one of ten recipients of the 2021 APRA Art Music Fund commission, leading to the creation and recording of five works for her group Underwards in 2022. These pieces were released alongside four other original works by Kirkwood, on Underwards’ debut album, Delve, in July 2023.
