Ambient science fiction music through improvised guitars, keyboards and effects

Delays Have Dangerous Ends celebrate the release of their 9th long form single ‘Seven Nights Nine Times Nine’ with a special performance at Lazybones Lounge, Sunday 7 December 2025.

Special guests will be electro-psych underground legends Scattered Order, complete with live visuals from LIVING SCIENCE Dept - a mind warping experience not to be missed.

Both Genevieve Von Black and Matthew Syres from Delays Have Dangerous Ends will play rare solo improvised sets to kick off the night.

DELAYS HAVE DANGEROUS ENDS - An Australian duo creating cinematic ambient science fiction music through improvised guitars, keyboards and effects.

Guitarist Matthew Syres brings years of experimental, industrial and post rock to the fray while keyboardist Genevieve Von Black injects mashups of jazz, doom and influences from prog rock and heavy classical.

Delays was formed in the bleak Sydney autumn of 2022 with an improvisation responding to ravens singing as the moon rose in the fading afternoon light. Listeners are immersed in cinematic landscapes like this, travelling from sublimely beautiful planets to darkly epic apocalypses.

Their music explores their love of all the dark things - think of the darker parts of Bohren and der Club of Gore, The Necks, Nick Cave, Alister Spence, Joseph Tawardros, Vangelis, Saint Vitus, Earth, Oren Ambarchi, Alice Coltrane, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Cluster, Sunn O))), Merzbow, science fiction and Nordic noir.

Their 2024 tour took in the Essence Festival of Extreme and Diverse Music (ACT), MONA (Tas), Make It Up Club (Bar Open) (Vic) and Lazybones Lounge (NSW). In 2025, Delays sold out the PACT Theatre in Sydney.

Delays have just released ‘Seven Nights Nine Times Nine’. It's the 9th and last in their ‘colour series’ of tracks showcasing their early work. According to pianist/synthesist Genevieve Von Black the track is ‘Hypnotic music from the last oasis on a desert planet’.  It’s darkly evocative, moody and atmospheric - all the good things.

‘Their music reflects the idea that we live in a Blade Runnerish dystopian world.’ - Dan Nahum, Director - Essence Festival of Extreme and Diverse Music

SCATTERED ORDER
In the so called twilight years of their career Scattered Order find themselves more in touch with their direction and purpose than any time in recent memory. Fifteen years ago, the band regrouped with founding members Mitch Jones and Michael Tee. Shane Fahey, also an early band member, rejoined them a year later in 2010. Mitch Jones is the mainstay and driving force within the band. He has been there all the way through since its inception in 1979.

Tragically in May 2024, Michael Tee passed away. Mitch Jones and Shane Fahey decided to push on and record the new album ‘Continue’, which was released in March 2025. A recording of hope-filled laments that touch on the ephemeral and timeless moments in memory and slow renewal.

As with any long standing musical act, there have been many manifestations of style, personnel and technology along the way. Their roots are in the DIY/post punk/art noise of the late 1970s. They exist outside the zeitgeist and legacy mode of their contemporaries from that era. They don't make noise like that anymore. Sometimes absurdly pleasant, sometimes carily abrasive, always multi- layered and certainly hurtling towards a blissful destination.
