Cameron Undy's Ghost Frequency // Visions of Nar

  • Church Street Studios 62-68 Church St Camperdown, NSW, 2050 (map)

"Monday Night Confessions" is a weekly show presenting original jazz/improvised music. Run out of Church Street Studios in Camperdown, Sydney, we acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, and pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging.

16th June 2025 - featuring: Cameron Undy's Ghost Frequency // Visions of Nar

Cameron Undy's Ghost Frequency

My Ghost Frequency project is born from a fascination with ancient African rhythms. This year my algorithm for the human embodiment and computer realisation of familiar and novel African/clave was published by MIT Press with co-authors Prof. R.T Dean and Dr. A. Milne. An algorithm that acknowledges and extends embodied intelligence in musical practice. Sounds fancy, right? Well, the real deal is to play beautiful and groovy music and that is what I will be aiming to do with collaborators Matt Keegan (saxophone) and Brendan Clark (bass) who’ve joined me closely on the journey without having to exactly understand ‘the math’… The idea is that music making uses algorithms of the body and that by developing interesting and new rhythmic forms from this philosophy we can ignite our innate expression in new and exciting ways, together.

The solo guitar albums are available through Earshift Music (and can be streamed too, yes)

“Few musicians would possess more depth of talent… thoroughly intriguing and unprecedented …” The Weekend Australian”★★★★★

“A beautiful exploration into the roots of rhythm.” Rhythms Magazine

“A unique approach to rhythm and technique.” Loudmouth

Visions of Nar

Visions of Nar brings a kaleidoscopic ride through Armenian folk, jazz and fresh compositions with a nod to the fiery Armenian goddess of water, sea and rain, Nar. Bringing together some of the most exciting voices in Australian jazz; pianist Zela Margossian and saxophonist Jeremy Rose, they team up with percussionist Adem Yilmaz.

This musical journey sends a message of hope and celebration of new beginnings, perfect for what the world needs now.

Visions of Nar’s debut album, Daughter of the Seas, was released on ABC Jazz and received critical acclaim. They have previously received an ABC Fresh Start commission, and performed at the Sydney Opera House as part of SIMA’s International Women’s Jazz Festival.
