  • Church Street Studios 62-68 Church St Camperdown, NSW, 2050 (map)

"Monday Night Confessions" is a weekly show presenting original jazz/improvised music. Run out of Church Street Studios in Camperdown, Sydney, we acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, and pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging.

23rd June 2025 - featuring: Hayley Chan solo // Sam Gill's Scattered

Hayley Chan

Hayley Chan is a performer, improviser, and composer based in Warrane/Sydney. Praised for her ability to “evoke atmosphere through subtlety and nuance” (Jessica Nichols, Sydney Morning Herald), her work transcends traditional genre boundaries, drawing inspiration from leading Australian artists such as Maria Moles, Dylan van der Schyff, and Andrea Keller. With a background in jazz, hip-hop, improvised, experimental, and industrial music, Hayley brings a distinctive post-genre sound to her performances.

Hayley has made her mark across Australia's east coast, having toured with artists such as Monstress and Matthew Ottignon’s Volant. She has performed at the Sydney Opera House, Vivid LIVE and at festivals such as Bigsound, Kiama Jazz and Blues, and Orange Winter Jazz Festival. As a 2024 Dots+Loops Performance Fellow, Hayley undertook a week-long residency at the Brisbane Powerhouse to put together two captivating sets of music alongside four performance fellows and mentors Helen Svoboda, Lexi Gorton and Frankie Dyson Reilly, culminating in their show-stopping performance at the 2024 Nonstop Festival.

Sam Gill's Scattered

Saxophonist Sam Gill and his acclaimed quintet Scattered return for their second gig at Monday Night Confessions!

Scattered make original music drawing on jazz, chamber music & European folk music traditions, conjuring evocative sound-worlds with lush harmonies, driving rhythms and animated improvisations.

Since forming in 2014, Scattered have carved out a unique space within the Sydney music scene, developing a loyal following of their unique brand of chamber jazz. Their 2020 debut album Perspectival was described by John Shand (Sydney Morning Herald) as “[slicing] through time and space to combine the freedom and complexity of now with an almost urbane salon aesthetic that could be a century old”.

Following their tenth birthday celebration last year, the band is developing a set of new music inspired by Sam's 2024 travels in Greece and Bulgaria.
