Ustad Mustafa Faizi (b. 1967, Kabul) is one of the leading Afghan classical vocalists of his generation. Steeped in the Patiala Gharana tradition of Indian classical music, he began singing at the age of fourteen under the guidance of his father, himself a devoted student of the legendary Afghan maestro Ustad Mohammad Hussain Sarahang. This lineage shaped Ustad Faizi’s musical path: his vocal style, emotional depth, and technical command all reflect the influence of Ustad Sarahang’s artistry while carrying his own distinct voice.

A respected ustad in Afghanistan, he taught at several music academies and trained a large and devoted cohort of students. His career later took him to India, where he performed widely - including at events for the Afghan Embassy and the UNHCR - further deepening his engagement with both Afghan and Indian classical traditions.

Beyond performance, Ustad Faizi sees music as a vital bridge between people - an art form that creates connection, continuity, and cultural resilience. This sense of responsibility has only grown as Afghanistan faces profound challenges: girls prevented from attending school, musicians barred from performing, and the nation’s artistic heritage placed under threat. For Ustad Faizi, carrying this tradition forward is both a duty and an act of hope.

Since moving to Sydney in 2022, he has continued to teach, perform, and serve as a cultural ambassador for Afghan and Indian classical music, upholding a lineage that has survived through devotion, study, and the enduring power of the human voice.
