Guitar Club brings together Hamburg-based guitarists Danica Hobden and Pouya Abdi with Sydney musicians Hinano Fujisaki and Alex Inman-Hislop.
Working without a bass, the quartet leans into space, resonance, and fragility, unfolding sound through a wide stereo field shaped by two guitars.
Their original compositions draw on the openness of Australian jazz alongside European influences, rooted in a deeply guitaristic approach that honours the innovative language shaped by guitarists such as Leo Brouwer and Egberto Gismonti.
As Guitar Club, Hobden and Abdi have spent the past three years establishing themselves as a duo across Hamburg and Northern Germany appearing at festivals such as Sternstunden Festival, Domshof Festival and performing with Hamburger Jazzpreis winner Dirk Achim Dhonau, and now look forward to expanding the project once more to collaborate with esteemed and distinctive Australian artists.
“One of the best debuts of the year… atmospheric floating images emerge alongside sweeping interiors – this has a stillness and devotion in a moment of maturing sound: an intensive care unit of melodic development and dramaturgy.” — Clemens Verhooven, Verhoovens Jazz
