SCM110: SSO Fellows & SCM Composers

  • Sydney Conservatorium of Music 1 Conservatorium Road Sydney, NSW, 2000 Australia (map)

Free, online booking required

As part of the Sydney Conservatorium's 110th Anniversary celebrations, we proudly highlight its longstanding partnership with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellowship.

Associate Professor Roger Benedict, who played a pivotal role in establishing the SSO Fellowship nearly 25 years ago and served as its Artistic Director for two decades, will conduct the ensemble in a dynamic program. The performance will feature Matthew Hindson’s Septet (2009), one of the first works commissioned for the SSO Fellows, alongside established pieces by Deborah Cheetham Fraillon, Liza Lim and Fiona Hill. The program also includes two world premieres by Damien Ricketson and Daniel Rojas.

This concert showcases some of Australia’s most vibrant and distinctive compositional voices. Cheetham Fraillon’s work evokes themes of haunting, grief, and a profound connection to Country. Ricketson and Hill explore the poetics of deep time and transformation, joined by Lim in their reflections on the natural world, while Hindson and Rojas infuse their music with a rhythmic vitality that connects heart, body and soul.
