Al Nuseirat Kitchen Gaza Fundraiser

Immerse yourself in an afternoon of stunning original acoustic music and Arabic songs from local composers/musicians Antonio Aguilar, Pavle Cajic, Maissa Alameddine, Maxeem Georges, Armistice Flute Ensemble - Keyna Wilkins, Chloe Chung, Laura Chislett, Jessica Scott, Liz Cheung. 100% of profits from this concert will do directly to the charity project Al Nuseirat Kitchen who distribute food, water and clothes and supplies around Gaza for thousands of local people amidst bombing and starvation. On display in the hall before and during the concert will be prints for sale from artists in Gaza with 100% of proceeds going directly to the artists.

CONCERT

The concert will feature unique original compositions from local composers and musicians, with a passion for world peace, global human rights and justice.

As a Palestinian musician, Antonio Aguilar inherits a long and rich history of music-making as an art form in his family. His mother is a pianist and music educator. His grandfather was an Oud and Qanun player who travelled the world with his band and performed traditional Arabic and fusion music. Antonio is proud to represent his people's resistance through music at this event.

Maissa Alamaddine is a Lebanese-Australian singer and multidisciplinary artist working across a range of mediums, who explores the idea of migration as a chronic injury and uses her voice as a provocation and a response.

Pavle Cajic is a pianist and composer of a classical background who has ventured into jazz and enjoys exploring music of different cultures through collaboration and improvisation as a way to learn about the many beautiful music-making practices throughout the world. They are passionate about using music as a vehicle to express the beautiful and tragic depth of our experience on this Earth.

Maxeem Georges is a Syrian oud player with a deep passion and knowledge of Maqam - the foundation of Arabic music scales. His music reflects a strong connection to the oud's rich history, preserving its traditional sounds while exploring its contemporary journey.

Armistice Flute Choir features Laura Chislett, Jess Scott Liz Cheung, Chloe Chung and Keyna Wilkins. Armistice means truce, ceasefire, agreement and perform their own compositions and improvisations against wars, promoting peace and hope.

Keyna Wilkins is a pioneering Australian/British composer-musician. She was one of three finalists for the Australian Art Music Awards for Individual Excellence in 2021 and 2018 (APRA/AMCOS). Her works are published by Wirripang and are performed internationally.

Chloe Chung is a cross-cultural flutist, playing Western flute and dizi (Chinese bamboo flute), teaching music, and collaborating with others to foster unexpected musical forms and connections throughout Sydney. She has also recently completed a season performing with Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra Miss Saigon tour or Asia.

Laura Chislett is a flutist educator and recording artist across a wide range of musical styles. Her recorded repertoire ranges from JS Bach and Lili Boulanger, to Brian Ferneyhough, Reza Vali, improvisation and for the iconic Australian TV series, Against The Wind.

Jessica Scott is a versatile performer, specialising in orchestral, contemporary, improvised and experimental performance and a recent graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, London.

Liz Cheung is a performer-improviser in Adelante Tango, the DeeBeeTees, musician and illustrator in Dreambox Collective, and appears as guest artist with various other ensembles including Meow Meow Casio.
